The “DM” WS015 Update!

Looks like Darren Morris is totally enjoying his new Cigar box axe!

The “DM” WS015

Once again, those great guys down at Sector 9, came through with another order!. This one was again placed by EG for his good friend Darren Morris, aka. Darmor.  I actually started this one in June and it took till the end of July to finish as a lot of summertime life got in the way. Summer has a good way of distracting you with a lot things that are funner than holing up in a workshop to build cool stuff.  But I did manage to find some time and I am really happy with how this one came out!

I used that nice Blood wood i got a while back for the fretboard which had a real nice contrast to the maple neck. Both the light maple and dark Blood wood contrasted nicely with the Burgundy of the box.  It has a 25″ scale with 16 frets.

Here it is before I attached it to the box, showing the art work and the sweet Bloodwood grains and color.

Here is a view of the headstock.

The workbench gets cluttered up pretty easily. Especially when your close to finally putting it al together.

My Dad (Richard Williams) doing some of the soldering work for the pick-up.  I use a simple Piezzo transducer as i really like the rawness of its sound. I feel these instruments should sound dirty, and a dirty sound is definitly what you get from these little transducers.

All my guitars come with this identity label inside it. It will give you details on the guitar and a little history on where the box came from. This particular Alec Bradley Imperator box came from San Diego, California. Jeff Budro, Also from Sector 9, has been on an epic search for cigar boxes for me. He has come up with some  gems! This box was one of his finds. You will be seeing a few more of his scores appearing in some future builds.

Another view of the whole rig.

I was very happy with how this box sounded. Very bright with good volume. I took it for a few licks out back of my parents house. here is how it sounded with my little Orange amp!

EG surprised Darmor with his box after an art show function he put on at his shop, “Hand Plant“, in Laguna beach. judging by the looks of this photo, Darren was pretty stoked!

Well, I am back into the workshop now to build the next one. stay tuned!
